kcwc: summer jammies

Another day of the Kids Clothes Week Challenge! I'm really happy about how well these sweet jammies turned out!
The top was made with an early version of the Blank Tank that I pattern tested for Melly Sews several months ago. All of the Blank Slate patterns are really great and very versatile, hence the name  "blank slate".
The pants are made with the basic kids pants pattern from Dana at Made. I cropped them and added a little room to make them comfy on warm summer nights.

For the pants I used a vintage bed sheet I bought at an amazing rummage sale held at a local church.  The fabric is super, super soft from year's of washing and has a fun patchwork pattern.

At last year's sale I ended up with a big stack of yummy vintage fabric. Well almost a year has passed and I have barely touched that stack. I am getting ready for the big sale again next Friday, so I decided to stop hoarding and start using my vintage finds. I still have about 80% of a queen sized sheet left, so don't be surprised if I go a little Fraulein Maria with this fabric :)

kcwc: day 1

For the first day of the Kids Clothes Week Challenge I made a happy polka-dot dress using the roller skate pattern from oliver + s. I really love this pattern, but it seems to want to ride-up at the empire waist as my little one plays. I think I just need to looses my elastic a little bit more. I always look forward to KCWC and I am so excited that it will now be happening every season not just twice a year! Well back to sewing, yay!

reversible circle skirts

Other people are so clever! I was browsing my Pinterest board for inspiration and I can across a really adorable reversible circle skirt by you and mei. All of her clothes are completely amazing, but this one stood out to me because it was made using part of the circle skirt tutorial from Made.

I already had created the skirt pattern from the Made tutorial during one of the Project Run And Play remix challenges. It is really simple to follow and you end up with a sweet skirt that any girl would love to twirl in! In the you and mei version she made some modifications that I really liked and used on my skirts. First of all by placing the elastic at the waist between the two layers of the skirt it is completely encased, nice and neat. The second feature I really like is finishing the hem with bias tape is a fun detail that adds to the twirly shape and look of the skirt. Her version of the skirt also has some adorable appliqués on the solid side. I plan to give that a try on the next go round, but with these skirts I was looking for a quick sew. I was able to make them both in about an hour, yay!

oliver +s roller skate tunic

I love sewing again, yay! After taking a bit of a sewing sabbatical for the better part of a year I have gotten back to my machine and am having so much fun!  I have a bunch more clothes to show you but I thought I would start with my new favorite pattern, the oliver+ s roller skate dress and tunic

I really liked the pattern when it was first released and I drooled over all of the amazing versions I saw in flickr pool. It is such a sweet and simple shape, perfect for spring/summer.

What really made me fall head-over-heels for this pattern is the quick and easy construction! Only 3 pattern pieces for the version I made, there is also another version with a notched neckline. It is so nice to get right to sewing instead of tracing a cutting a million pattern pieces. I made this tunic in a size 5 using a yard of Sandi Henderson fabric called "fresh cut flowers" in midnight.

I couldn't resist this picture of my crazy daughter channeling her inner Mick Jagger!

Look what I made!

Say hi to Kaitlyn Marie!

Our sweet baby girl was born Febuary 5th, she weighed 9lbs and measured 21 1/2 inches. Everyday since then has been a lovefest  around our home. Her big sister and brother affectionately call her "baby Kate" or just "my baby". She is a super sweet, calm baby and is very forgiving of her siblings zealous displays of affection :)

Over the past month I've been adjusting to our busy little household. Things are starting to feel back to normal and routines are falling into place. I have even been able to sew a little, hooray! I stuck with some favorites, a couple class picnic tops and circle skirts. I will post them soon. I really want to sew a few things for baby Kate, but I don't have many patterns that are small enough. Please let me know if ther are any patterns or tutorials that you have enjoyed making for little, little ones :)
