This year Sophie made up her mind that she wanted to be Snow White for Halloween. Last year she was Cinderella in a store bought costume, with a few mommy made extras. This year I was determined to make her costume myself and I am really pleased with how is turned out!
I used the Snow White by Simplicity ( pattern 2817) to make the dress. It was probably one of the more complicated dresses that I have made so far. The bodice is lined, there are darts in the front and back and a lapped back zipper. It was nice to try out these new skills on a costume and not something crucial like a flower girl dress.
For the sleeves I used a great tutorial by Jessica at CINO. They took a little more time, but I love them so much, they made the dress so adorable!
My sweet little guy also had a made by mommy costume this year. He was a pirate, but got a little grumpy around picture time and ended up home with me instead of out trick-or-treating. In my head I could hear Jerry Seinfeld saying, "I don't wanna be a pirate" all night as he moped!

She's adorable! Congratulations on a gorgeous mommy-made costume! :)
ReplyDeleteAn awesome Snow White costume, Tara!!!
ReplyDeleteOoooohhhhh cute!!! Love the huge sleeves and collar, just awesome! How fun for Sophie! And I seriously laughed out loud at the "I don't wanna be a pirate!" thing. Please tell me he was wearing a ruffly shirt. :)
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at your abilities! When I saw Sophie in her costume on Skype I thought it did not look like your average cheap Target costume; but I didn't know you made it! I thought it might have come from Disneyland. So when will you open up a shop??????? :)
ReplyDeleteShe's so pretty in her costume! The stand up collar and sleeves are perfection.:)
